Herringbone Hallway Restoration
An oak herringbone hallway in Surrey with loose blocks re-laid, sanded and lacquered.
About this project
The oak herringbone hallway had taken decades of heavy foot traffic. Blocks by the front door were rocking underfoot, and some had gone missing over the years.
We lifted the loose blocks, cleaned off the old bitumen and re-laid them with modern flexible adhesive, sourcing reclaimed oak blocks to replace the missing ones. The floor was then sanded in several directions to suit the herringbone pattern.
We finished with three coats of matt water-based lacquer for a durable, natural look. You can no longer tell where the repairs were made.
