Decking Restoration
Weathered garden decks brought back to life with cleaning, sanding and protective oil.
A few winters can turn a smart new deck grey, green and slippery. Fortunately, the damage is usually only skin deep, and careful sanding reveals sound, attractive timber below.
Our Surrey team applies the same care to decking as to indoor floors. The result is a deck that looks good, feels safer underfoot and is protected for seasons to come. Our guide to decking restoration after winter explains the timing.
Our process
Deep clean to remove algae, moss and dirt
Repairs to split or rotten boards
Sanding to remove grey, weathered fibres and raised grain
Protective decking oil with UV filters
Every kind of deck
From pressure-treated pine to tropical hardwoods, we tailor the process to the timber. Grooved boards need extra cleaning, but they come up just as well. Wooden steps and benches can be done at the same time.
Keeping your deck looking good
Annual cleaning and a top-up coat of oil every one to two years keep decking at its best. Just as indoor floors benefit from re-oiling, decks need regular oil to stay water-resistant.
Is it time?
Faded, silver-grey timber
Green algae making the surface slippery
Splinters and raised grain
Old stain or oil peeling in patches
Regular care prevents water getting into the timber and causing rot. A typical garden deck takes one to two days. Because the oil needs dry weather to cure, we keep an eye on the forecast and reschedule if needed. Late spring and early autumn are usually ideal.
Repairs and safety
We inspect the boards and visible frame as we clean. Rotten or split boards are swapped out, and protruding screws replaced so the surface is safe for bare feet. Any problems with the frame are reported to you before we continue.
Indoor work is covered by our 3-month guarantee; ask us about how this applies to outdoor timber, which is exposed to the weather. Check our prices page for typical decking costs.

Questions about decking restoration
My decking has gone grey and slippery — can it be saved?
In most cases, yes. We deep clean, sand and treat the boards with a UV-resistant decking oil that restores the warm timber tone and reduces slipperiness. See our decking restoration service.
When is the best time to restore decking?
Late spring to early autumn is ideal. The timber needs a few dry days so the oil can soak in properly. Our decking guide explains how to prepare.
Do you need electricity and water?
We need access to a standard power socket and, ideally, parking near the property. Our machines run on domestic power, and we bring everything else with us.
How long does decking oil last?
Once a year is a good rule of thumb. South-facing decks in full sun may need it sooner. Regular oiling stops the wood drying out and greying.
Do you repair decking as well?
We swap out damaged boards and re-fix loose ones as part of the job. New boards are blended in once the whole deck is oiled.
How are your prices worked out?
Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and the free survey gives you a fixed written quote.
